Why Joseph Weissman Believes
Joseph Weissman is a Presbyterian living in Oklahoma with his wife and three children. He loves fellowship with the saints, life on the homestead, and reading old books. He runs Berith Press, a book company focused on retrieving some of the finest Protestant literature ever written; and Reformed Masora a blog in defence of the traditional Masoretic Text of the holy Scriptures.
Joseph Weissman’s Testimony
When did you become a Christian and why?
I thought I was a Christian when I was younger, however I was still living in my sins. The Lord brought me first to mental and physical anguish, then to a realization of the depth of my sins, and that I was a false convert, and he saved me mercifully when I was 29 years old.
How does Christianity compare to what you thought it was like before you became a believer?
I grew up as a professing Christian, however I was not really regenerate. I had a form of Christianity while denying its power. I harbored lots of secret sins in my life, and I remained in darkness.
Earlier in my life, I viewed Christianity as a set of propositions that, so long as I affirmed them, I would be okay. However, when Christ saved me, I realized how holy God was, how badly I had sinned against him, and how merciful he was to save me. Initially I only had a notional or theoretical idea about who God was and what Christianity was, but when I was truly saved I began to know God personally which changed everything.
“Initially I only had a notional or theoretical idea about who God was and what Christianity was, but when I was truly saved I began to know God personally which changed everything.”
What would you say to someone who is curious about biblical Christianity?
I would say don’t ignore your conscience. God gave us each a conscience for a reason; we instinctively know right from wrong, and it serves as a judge within us. Namely, it tells you that Judgment Day is coming, that there will be a time when you’ll be judged for your sins.
Additionally, eternity is written on our hearts, and if you are seeking to drown out your conscience with pleasure, that never works. Instead, repent of your sins and believe in Jesus Christ before it’s too late for you. Drop everything you’re doing and read your Bible now. Go to a church where you can hear the true gospel preached and speak to the minister. Pray intensely and honestly that God would forgive your sins and save your soul.
How have you seen God work in your life, and how is God working in your life lately?
God has sustained my life and brought me through many trials. He vindicated me when I was falsely accused, after standing for his truth. Also, God has blessed me with a lovely wife and three sweet covenant children. He has also helped me to see sin that still remains in my life for what it is.
What is your ministry?
“God has sustained my life and brought me through many trials.”
While I don’t know if I’d consider it strictly a ministry, and it is not tied to a church office, I run a Christian publishing company called Berith Press that strives to produce excellent historic Protestant literature and make it available in clearly typeset editions.
How did you get into ministry?
I would read old PDFs of old books, or buy facsimile reprints, and long for clean, readable versions. I started cleaning up old books and lightly modernizing them as a hobby, and then I took it up a notch, and we began a book company from home.
“I always consider the theological value of what we’re putting out through our ministry.”
What has ministry taught you?
I have learned so much from the books we have put out. If I can’t learn anything from a book personally, there is no point in making it publicly available to others either. As such, I always consider the theological value of what we’re putting out through our ministry as well as in the books I personally read, so that others and I continue to grow spiritually.
How can people support you and your ministry?
You can visit Berith Press’ website and/or subscribe to my blog Reformed Masora .
